A Perfect Combo: Serendipity and The Met

Sunday morning, we got up and out a little earlier than we did on Saturday.  Serendipity has been on our to do list since before arriving in NYC.  It opens at 11:30, so naturally, we assumed if we were there when it opened, it would be a breeze to get it.  Not!  But it was a pleasant and not so long wait.  It looks like what an ice cream shop might look like, only a little over the top with lots of stained glass lamps and nostalgic signs, pictures, etc. complete with painted white bentwood ice cream chairs around round marble tables.  Kelsey did order a pasta lunch, but I went for the famous frozen hot chocolate only.  And it lived up to its reputation -- absolutely delicious!!
After enjoying such tasteful finery, we set out on a beautiful and cooler day for our 1.6-mile walk to The Metropolitan Museum of Art.  It is a HUGE building with a grand foyer that reminded me somewhat of Grand Central Terminal with its high ceiling and arched entrances.  We began and ended our time here with the Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossibile Conversations exhibit.  It was our first stop because we didn't want to run out of time and not see it, and it was also our last stop because we liked it so much we wanted to see it one more time.  The similarities between Elsa Schiaparelli's designs of the 1930s (1920s and 1940s also) and Miuccia Prada's 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s is striking.  The exhibit is set up with Schiaparelli's designs alongside Prada's designs. The videos of orchestrated conversations between the two focusing on how each approached a similar theme was so enlightening.  We were not allowed to make pictures in the exhibit, so I "borrowed" a few from the internet.
We also explored other parts of the Met, with the paintings being my favorite.  Kelsey got to see some works that are important to her, and I just got to explore all kinds of finds.  We were allowed to make pictures in these parts of the museum so I am sharing some highlights with you.
When we left The Met at closing time, it was still such a beautiful afternoon that we opted to walk the 2.6 miles home.  On the way, we happened by FAO Schwarz, where Kelsey got to cross off another item on her to do list, playing on the Big Piano. Then it was back to the long walk home.  After three hours of walking around in The Met plus the additional walking, this was another one of those days when this country mouse's short "plump" legs just about gave out before making it back -- maybe that's why I couldn't write Sunday night!

Me trying to decide -- an Outrageous Banana Split or the Frozen Hot Chocolate?
